Vietnam History - A Brief History of Vietnam

The Vietnamese have a long and rich history. The first humans to live in Vietnam came around 20,000 years ago. These people were known as Hoabinhians, descended from the Negritos of modern-day Venezuela. While the earliest people to inhabit Vietnam were not technically "people" per se, they had unique characteristics that made them unique. Today, these Hoabinhians are known as the oldest human settlements in Vietnam.

In 1407, the Chinese Ming came to power. They ruled for two centuries but were eventually defeated by the Le Dynasty, which invaded Champa in 1471. The Mac Dynasty ended in 1945, after which civil unrest continued due to the rivalry between the Nguyen and Trinh families. As a result, the Nguyen family eventually won over the Trinhs and became the new rulers of Vietnam.

In the early sixteenth century, Dai Viet, or Vietnam, became the dominant state of the country. By the time of the Portuguese seafarers, the kingdom had grown and prospered. However, rival Viets were emerging in the south, and the empire was split in two. In the north, the Mac Lords controlled the Red River Delta region while the Trinh Lords ruled the southern part of the country.

Following the French defeat, Hanoi declared the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This regime imposed a sterile command economy, and most Vietnamese lived in extreme poverty. The Third Indochina War, aimed at eliminating the Khmer Rouge regime, compounded the problem by causing a large scale civil war between the two nations. The Chinese were the primary force behind the invasion of Cambodia and the Communists were forced to retreat. During this time, the Communists had invaded Cambodia.

In the 10th century, the Viets were free and took on Chinese characteristics. They dominated Southeast Asia, but were not completely influenced by the Chinese culture. After the war, the Viets grew geographically and took on many of the characteristics of the Chinese. Their culture became increasingly diverse and expanded, but the Viets were a different story. The Communists ruled Vietnam for a decade and were followed by the communists in 1968. In the first Indochina War, the United States fought the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. In the second, both countries declared war on the Khmer Rouge regime. The Vietnamese were then pushed back to the top of the world. It was a bitter battle for a century. The Second Indochina War was a bloody conflict. In the third, the two countries allied and attacked Cambodia.

The second war was a civil war. After the defeat of the French, the Communists overthrew the government and occupied the country. In the third, the Americans invaded the country. In the fourth, the Americans and the Vietnamese forces took control of the northern part of Vietnam. In the second, the Communists defeated the Han and took over the country. By the end of the War, the Vietnamese had taken back their land, and they were able to reclaim it.
